Tang Yin; Giuseppe Castiglione, the amalgamator of East and West who painted for the Chinese imperial palace; and the early Taiwanese modern art master Shui-Long Yen. Their appropriations also include: ancient bells and urns used in imperial chambers, iconic historical photographs, ancient tomes and poetry. Based on the subject matter of the appropriated works, the exhibition is divided into seven categories, harkening back to the classification system of dynastic China: Landscapes; Taoism and Buddhism; Human Figures; Tales of the Mysterious; Calligraphy; Flowers, Birds and Beasts; and Photographic Images. In this way, it examines the intentions of contemporary artists in appropriating these classic works, and the ways in which they have refashioned the past.
In Taiwan of the 1960s, the influential art forms arriving from the West were predominantly abstract and conceptual art. It was not until the 1990s that Western Dadaism and Warholian pop art began to have a significant impact. After the end of martial law in 1987, the pace of democratization in Taiwanese society quickened, and social attitudes gradually opened up. This was reflected in art with a broadening of thought and diversification of creative elements and subject matter. In “postmodern” society with its commercialization and mass reproduction of images, “classic works” and literary narratives became disengaged from their cultural contexts, losing their functions as palace decorations and sources of enlightenment. No longer was art the symbolically expressive, elite works of the traditional humanities. It had moved from the refined, gentrified classes of the past to the popular culture of today.

For the contemporary age, these classic works present richly beautiful, powerful images and a sense of mystery engendered by distance in time. Yet unlike dynastic-era artists whose imitations were based on the foundation of “reverence for antiquity,” these famous works, after having undergone mass reproduction, ceased being rarely glimpsed works of the imperial court and became “images” that anyone could behold or obtain at a moment’s notice. They had even lost the textures and brushstrokes of the original, existing in a “flattened” state. Ruminating on local history, cultural values and identity, Taiwanese contemporary artists made use of those artworks that once adorned imperial power and symbolized the tastes of the literati class, engaging in a dialogue with their own history and culture, disassembling, reassembling, re-creating and altering the styles and subject matter of classic works through symbolic or allegorical images in order to enunciate their views on the present-day state of affairs through simile or metaphor. These include: consideration and breakthroughs in aesthetics and forms of expression; criticism of the current state of Taiwanese society, history and culture; voicing of their own inner ideal worlds and feelings about life; and the transformation of the artistic tastes of the past to a popular, commercial aesthetic more closely oriented toward everyday life. At the same time, as contemporary artists re-examine and re-create classic works of the past, they also re-accentuate and rediscover the artistic accomplishments of the past in light of new definitions and the perspective of art history. As artists refabricate the past, amid this convergence of dual-directional observation, discovery, transformation and original creation, they yield a wealth of meaning and limitless possibilities of expression in the contemporary era.

真的十分的宁静,太阳渐渐的稍微有了起色,但是天空还是稍微有些暗暗的,我到了训练场后开始绕跑训练场五圈,随后开始练习挥剑之类的,但是跟本不知道剑术,我很纳闷那时拿起王者之剑是怎麽挥舞出那些剑术的

当我正在鑽牛角尖时,突然背后发出声音说道「你这样子是打不赢队长的」我惊吓到往回看是谁,这不是卡杰罗吗?我回问「你···这麽早啊」卡杰罗也简单跟我应个早回之「凭你这乱挥怎可能打得赢队长?」我擦擦汗回之「对阿,看来应该很难」卡杰罗听后有些惊讶道「你怎说的这麽轻松,如果你没打掉队长的剑就准备被逐出这?!」

我回道「是阿,我知道!但是我也不会些什麽剑技···」卡杰罗满脸疑问「不会?那你当天是如何战斗的?」我摸摸了下头回之「其实那并不是我的力量」卡杰罗到一旁找个地方坐下回应「你在开甚麽鬼玩笑???我完全听不懂」我看卡杰罗一脸迷惑决定稍微跟他解释,解释完后卡杰罗又是一番沉默随说道「想不到竟然有这种兵器,那你怎办?我记得时间不是快到了吗?」

我叹了口气说之「如果会些圣剑士的剑技就好了」「剑技?队长完全没教你吗?」「是啊,他只说要我用这把滥剑在限定的天数内打掉他剑,还有穿这些重量装备」卡杰罗想了下站起来说道「好吧,既然你是个剑习剑士我也有义务教导,但是我只教你初段,看你自己领悟多少了,毕竟你不是我的队员」

我听到卡杰罗的话我惊喜的问之「你说真的吗!?」「嗯,因为我也挺好奇你能跟队长搏斗到怎样的地步的」随之卡杰罗拿了把剑开始示范剑法给我看,我在一旁仔细看者卡杰罗的步骤,挥舞,过了段时间,我大概掌握了七~八分,卡杰罗也有些吓到心想〔想不到他天资这麽高,示范个几次就大概抓到了整体的重点〕随后有人从旁跑了过来,卡杰罗回之「太慢了,是搞些甚麽!!」「很抱歉!!」我转头回看之,那不是卡森吗,我对者卡森打个招呼,卡森问道「呦~早啊,你怎麽会一个人在这?」

随后卡杰罗就出了训练场,我继续的练习刚刚卡杰罗教我的方式,过了一段时间,训练场人渐渐开始多了起来,队长走了过来看我稍微使了一点剑技问道「是谁教你的?」我跟队长应早后回之「是刚刚请卡杰罗稍微教我一些初段的剑技」「哦?那你拿捏得怎样了?」我稍微有点信心小冒冷汗的回之「嘿,您想试试看吗?」队长看我这样回微笑了下,马上抽了剑指向我说道「有何不可?放马过来」

我握者剑,衝上队长上,队长挡了我第一剑,我试者运用刚刚卡杰罗教我的挥法马上转圈再挥之,队长在挡下第二剑后换他反击,开始小认真起来,我们两个开始进行了你来我往的攻防战,那战况在旁人眼裡看都有些称奇,但是由于剑法还不是很成熟,加上对方经验老道,我过个几招后开始感觉越来越困难渐渐处于下风,我紧握剑要突刺时被队长很巧妙的连剑带拔把我轰到了一旁

队长看我进步神速说道「不错,想不到只是教你初段剑法就有这样的成绩,如果连中段七段也都教给了你,你今天可能就有办法打掉我的剑」我爬了起来疑问回道「中段七段?」队长回之「你还是先把初段摸熟吧,怎说初段也有个五小段,况且你也是今天才学,如果你摸熟这五段可能用初段的剑技就绰绰有馀了」

当我回神过来看看周遭,旁边的剑士们似乎都在谈论者我们,队长看他们吱吱喳喳的大声吼道「看甚麽看!?还不快练习!!」当队长吼完后大家一窝蜂散开继续手边的练习,队长接者对我说道「好了,你自己在努力点吧,你剩下四天的时间了」我答应回之「对了,队长你知道这附近有一个水晶洞吗?」队长想了下回之「你是说边境那里的一个洞穴?」我回道「是的」队长疑问回之「那洞穴怎了吗?」「那洞穴裡头有一个雕像,而且内部又感觉起来不是天然的,想问看看有没有关于那里的历史」队长回道「哦,原来你们两个昨天跑到那里约会啊?」我不好意思脸红回道「我们没有约会!」

队长想了下回之「那里头有个雕像?」我点点头,接者队长又继续说之「我记得那洞穴是很早之前就有在那裡了,但是我不知道说裡头还有个雕像,我没有进去过所以也不是很知情」我回道「都没有关于那里的历史吗?」队长说之「我只记得那里百年前似乎好像有村庄在那里,但是后来好像因为百年前的战争,那里的人们被迫迁离」我惊讶回道「咦?!是现在在这圣城裡的居民吗?」队长回之「可能是,也可能不是」我疑问了下「为什麽?」「因为毕竟是百年前的事情,当初究竟有多少的人民来这都不清楚,因为当时的圣城还没成型前就像是为了对抗魔族的大本营,所以可能会有世界各地的人来到这裡一起团结起来」

我没回应继续听者队长说,「但是既然是大本营自然魔族来攻击得机率就会高出很多,自然时常更会战争连连」我回道「这样啊···」「而那时就是主要由五位战士来领导那次的人民」「五位?不是只有四位吗??」队长看我好像知道样问道「哦?你知道啊?」我回之「昨天爱希尔有稍微跟我讲起」队长摸摸下巴回道「看来她还挺用功的,但是是有五位的」我回应「第五位是谁呢?」「我记得第五位是你们妖精族的『亚瑟王』」

当我听到亚瑟王三个字十分震惊,我急忙问道「不可能吧!?都过了一百多年了,现在那个人应该不可能在这世上啊!!」坎尔曼无奈回道「我没说他还活者啊」我整个人茫然的站在那里,这样女皇要我找的是死人吗?竟然是一百年前的人,怎可能还活者?那之前所罗说他遇到的妖精族到底是谁?那个人真的是亚瑟王?
